January 22nd 1825CJAt Longtown on the 13th inst, aged 68, Thomas Armstrong, shoemaker, a freeman of Carlisle.At Peth near Longtown, on Sunday last, Alice Scurry, aged 69.January 29th 1825CJAt Longtown on Tuesday last, Elizabeth Baty, widow, aged 78.Same day, William Lawson, coach driver, in the prime of life.February 5th 1825CJAt Slealands, near Longtown, on Sunday last, Walter Scott, joiner, aged 64.At Longtown, same day, James Hodgson, weaver, aged 51. He was well known as a kind of banker among the indigent members of his own craft, to whom he was in the habit of lending small sums of money, always taking care that they should deposit some of their work in his hands as a security.February 19th 1825CJAt Longtown on the 12th inst, John Beaty, shoemaker, aged 17; he was a young man of promising abilities and his death has proved a severe affliction to his disconsolate parents, of whom he was the chief support.March 12th 1825CJAt Longtown on the 4th inst, Jane, wife of Mr John Turner, merchant, aged 26.March 26th 1825CJAt Longtown on the 16th inst, Jane Robinson, widow, in her 91st year: on the 22nd, Robert Reed, weaver, aged 60.At Longtown Moor, near Longtown, on the 14th inst, Jane Ferguson, aged 21, a young woman greatly respected for gentleness of manners and Christian piety.April 9th 1825CJAt Springfield near Gretna on the 23rd ult, aged 88, Mr John Miller, sen, father of the Messrs Miller of Aberdeen, eminent dealers in cattle. Her death is much regretted by her friends and neighbours.November 26th 1825CPLast week, at Parton, near Whitehaven, of an inflammation in the chest, Mr James Lawson, master of the school endowed by the late Mr Williamson, aged 36. Few men, moving in a similar sphere of life, have died more deeply lamented by his acquaintances than Mr Lawson. He had considerable talent and great taste in copperplate engraving, in which he was self-instructed. The united ages of these three individuals whose deaths took place within a few hours of each other, amount to 242 years.At Beckside, Kirkandrews on Esk, on Sunday last, Mary Little, aged 77.May 27th 1826CJAt Longtown on Wednesday last, Mrs Eleanor Glendinning, aged 63.June 3rd 1826CJAt Longtown on Saturday last, Mr John Little, merchant, Hollows, parish of Cannonbie, aged 37.June 24th 1826CJAt Henrystown on Thursday week, Mr John Hamilton aged 76; at Bogburn on Sunday last, Mr Robert Lamb, aged 85, both in the parish of Kirkandrews on Esk.July 8th 1826CJAt Longtown on Saturday last, Jane, the wife of Mr John Armstrong, gardener, late of Dykeside, aged 61 years.July 8th 1826CPAt Moor Cottage, Rigg of Gretna, - Johnston, female servant of Mr Thos. Hope, farmer there. The untimely death of this unfortunate girl was owing to her taking an overdose of laudanum from a bottle belonging to her mistress, but there is no reason to suppose she took the draught with bad intentions.July 22nd 1826CJAt Longtown on Wednesday se?enight, Isabella Lowther, dealer in chinaware, aged 31.At Bogburn on the following day, Mary Johnston, aged 24, a very pious young woman.August 26th 1826CPOn the 19th Inst. at Smithfield in the parish of Kirklinton in this county, after a short illness, Jane Baty, relict of Richard Baty, innkeeper. Her hospitality and orderly conduct, for upwards of 42 years, during which she had sole management of a respectable inn, cause her death to be deeply regretted by numerous circle of acquaintances.August 26th 1826CJAt Longtown on Tuesday week, Mr James Armstrong, tailor, in the prime of life and lately arrived from London.September 2nd 1826CJAt Longtown on Tuesday last, Mr John Ferguson of Englishtown, in the prime of life, leaving a widow and six children to lament his loss.September 23rd 1826CPOn the 15th at the Rigg, Gretna, Mr James Glendinning, of a violent apoplectic stroke. He was standing speaking to some masons at work close to his own house, when the complaint seized him; he instantly fell senseless, although medical assistance was promptly administered.Same day, in the 17th year of his age, Mr Thomas Graeme, son of Mr James Graeme, farmer, Sark Bridge, parish of Gretna.October 21st 1826CJAt Whiteclose, parish of Stapleton, Mr Thomas Little, aged 56.October 28th 1826CJOn Wednesday at Mrs Waugh?s, English Street, William, the youngest son of Thomas Irwin Esq. of Justice Town, aged 27, much regretted.At Longtown on Monday last, Mr John Mitchell, butcher, late of this city, aged 42.November 11th 1826CJAt Goslinsyke on his road home to Springfield, from the South of England, Mr John Miller, drover, aged 56 years.November 25th 1826CJAt Mossband, Kirkandrews, John Irving, aged 62.December 8th 1826CJAt Cambeckhill in the parish of Irthington on the 26th ult, after a short illness, Mr John Bell, aged 85. Jane Bell, wife of the above, died on the 22nd October last aged 71. In the autumn of 1805, she was tapped for the dropsy (with which disease she had been many years previous to that time afflicted) by Mr James, surgeon of Carlisle, when he took from her 36 quarts of water. From that period, she underwent the same operation 47 times, all which she bore with great patience and resignation, and was mostly capable of walking about and working at her needle etc till within a few days of her death.
