November 9th 1833CJAt Burnfoot Arthuret on Thursday week, Mrs Taylor in the prime of life.At Browhead, Kirkandrews, on Sunday last, Mr John Armstrong, aged 22 years.At Bogburn, Kirkandrews, on Sunday last, Miss Elizabeth Johnston aged 12 years.December 7th 1833CPOn the 12th ult, Elizabeth, wife of Mr Leonard Murray of the Flat, Bewcastle, aged 37.On the 21st ult, Mr Thomas Armstrong of Park Nook in the parish of Bewcastle, aged 63.December 14th 1833CJAt Northampton on the 5th inst, Robert, second son of Mr John Scott, innkeeper, Longtown, aged 21 years; he was a very promising young man.At Westlinton on Wednesday last, Mr John Dixon aged 74, much and deservedly respected by all who knew him.December 21st 1833CJAt Longtown on Friday last, Margaret, wife of Mr Alexander Irving, shoemaker, aged 37; on Sunday Mrs Jane Graham, spinster, aged 73.December 28th 1833CPOn Friday 13th December at Torquay, Devonshire, where she had gone for the benefit of her health, of a rapid decline, in the 26th year of her age, Jane, wife of the Rev. Wm Irving BA of Jesus College, Oxford, curate to the Very Rev. the Dean of Bristol. The deceased was the last surviving daughter of Joseph Seymour Esq. of Maryport.December 28th 1833CJAt Fergushill Cottage, Kirklinton, on the 26th inst, Catherine, daughter of the late Mr Robert Bett of Leith, aged 24 ? much and justly regretted.January 4th 1834CJAt Longtown on the 24th ult, Mr William Best, aged 67, a man of very eccentric habits.January 11th 1834CPAt Brisco Hill, on Monday last, Jane, wife of Mr Isaac Scott of that place, aged 89 years. This venerable woman had been married to her husband (who survives her and is now in his 90th year) nearly seventy years, and had lived a life of peaceful industry. In her the poor have lost a kind and generous friend and the inhabitants, where she lived, a good and worthy neighbour.January 11th 1834CPAt Scarbank, near Longtown, on the 28th ult, Miss Frances Mowatt, aged 75 years ? Mr James Forster, blacksmith, aged (68?) years, much lamented by a numerous circle of friends.March 15th 1834CJAt Longtown on Monday last, Ann, wife of Mr John Armstrong, weaver, aged 26 years.March 29th 1834CJAt Longtown on the 16th inst Mrs Graham, formerly of the Globe Inn of the above place, aged 78, much respected.At Longtown on Sunday last, Mr Walter Davidson, butcher, aged 67.At Halburn near Longtown on Monday last, Mrs Mary Beatie, widow, aged 91.April 19th 1834CJAt Smithsteads in the parish of Stapleton, on the 13th inst, aged 85, highly respected through life, Mrs Mary Moscop, widow, who was mother to 15 children, grandmother to 87, great-grandmother to 111 and great-great grandmother to one, making the number of her whole progeny 214. One of her daughters is at this time grandmother to 45.May 3rd 1834CPAt Hallburn near Longtown, on the 23rd ult, Mary, relict of Mr William Irving of Chappel Town.May 3rd 1834CJAt Charlesfield on the 19th ult, Mr John Irving aged 76 years.May 10th 1834CPOn the 2nd inst Mr Thomas Graham, innkeeper at Stelshaw in the parish of Bewcastle in this county, aged 50, also a few hours after, his wife Jane, aged 54. They were previously in good health but died of short and severe illnesses. They were both interred in one grave at Bewcastle churchyard on Monday 5th inst.May 17th 1834CJAt Hallford Mills, Kirklinton, Mr William Blenkinsop, aged 85 years.At Stoneknow, Bewcastle, on the 12th inst, Elizabeth, wife of Mr Thomas Wilson, aged 56.July 5th 1834CPOn Monday last at Nicholforest, Mr James Davidson, aged 80 years, much and deservedly respected.At the Guards, on the 25th ult, aged 59 years, Sarah, the beloved wife of Herbert Wilkin Esq. In her a numerous family have lost an affectionate parent, and the poor one always ready to alleviate their wants.July 19th 1834CPAt Longtown on the 11th inst, Mary, wife of the Rev. George Newby, curate of Arthuret, aged 37 years.August 9th 1834CPOn the 1st inst at Stoneystone-Rigg in the parish of Kirklinton, aged 82, Thomas Holmes, one of the Society of Friends. His virtues will be long remembered by a numerous circle of relatives and friends, to whom he was endeared by the possession of every good quality, which gained for him the esteem and affection of all who knew him.August 16th 1834CJOn the 7th inst, Mr John Carruthers, of Birktimber Hill in Nicholforest, aged 73.August 23rd 1834CJAt Whitesyke, Arthuret, on Friday the 15th inst, Mrs Sibbald Somerville,aged 90 years.At the Rectory of Bewcastle on Monday, the Rev Mr Graham, advanced in years.September 6th 1834CJOn Saturday last at Skitby, parish of Kirklinton, Mr John Graham, aged 68.September 20th 1834CJAt Longtown on the 15th inst Hannah, wife of Mr John Lockhart, much lamented and deservedly respected.October 4th 1834CJAt Luckens, Stapleton, on the 26th ult, aged 84, Mrs Ann Kennedy, widow, who was mother to 15, grandmother to 81, and great-grandmother to 15 children.At Malsgate, on Monday last, Mr Geo Little, aged 67 years. Few men have passed through life more deservedly respected than the deceased, whose loss is keenly felt and lamented by his family and friends.October 18th 1834CPOn the 13th inst, Mr Archibald Little, a respectable farmer resident at Dodgsontown in the parish of Stapleton, aged 50. He was attending diving service at a Protestant dissenting chapel in the parish of Bewcastle, and was suddenly seized with an internal complaint, on which he was taken from the chapel to the house of his uncle, Mr Edward Forster of Slacks, Bewcastle, where he died in a few hours.November 8th 1834CPOn the 18th ult at the house of his brother-in-law, Mr William Routledge of the Metal Bridge Inn, near Gretna, Mr Joseph Jefferson, formerly of Kirkoswald, aged 40 ? deservedly respected.November 8th 1834CJNear Netherby on the 5th inst, very suddenly, in the prime of life, Mrs Charles, wife of William Charles, groom to Sir James Graham, Bart.At Jackson?s Rigg near Longtown on Saturday last, Mrs Mary Graham, aged 90.November 15th 1834CPVery suddenly at Prior?s Lynn, Cannonbie, on the 4th inst. Miss Isabella Mowatt, late of Scarbank near Longtown, aged 74. Throughout the long life of the lamented deceased there shone, in an eminent degree, all that was warm-hearted and kind as a neighbour, sincere as a friend, and actively benevolent as a Christian.
