January 3rd 1835CJAt Nether Hall, Bewcastle, on Sunday last, Mr William Little, aged 94.January 17th 1835 CJAt Longtown on Friday week, Thomas, son of Mr Wm Ferguson, merchant, aged 11 months.February 7th 1835CJAt Eden Terrace near this city on Wednesday last, Tristram Lowther Esq advanced in years. Mr Lowther several years ago selected a place in Dornock churchyard near Annan for his burial place, and erected a tombstone over the spot containing the usual inscription with the exception of the date of his death, and in that situation it has been standing ever since.February 14th 1835CPAt Guards, on the 12th inst, after a long and painful illness borne with Christian fortitude and resignation, Herbert Wilkin Esq. aged 72 years.February 21st 1835CJAt Rockcliff Cross on the 13th inst, Mrs Jane Wilkin, wife of Mr Wm Wilkin, aged 42, leaving six children to lament her loss.February 28th 1835CJOn the 23rd inst at Halfoot Mills, Mr Richard Baxter, aged 35, much respected.March 7th 1835CPOn Sunday last, Mrs Mary Dodgson, relict of the late Mr Robert Dodgson of Roanstrees in the parish of Bewcastle, in this county, at the advanced age of 89.On the 16th ult, Mr Robert Routledge, farmer at Todhills, Bewcastle, aged 62.March 21st 1835CJAt Longtown on the 14th inst, Mr Wm Ferguson, merchant, aged 35 ? much respected as an honest and upright man in all the relations of life. He was a founder and one of the chief supporters of the Scotch Secession Church in Longtown, and had died universally respected.Same place on Wednesday last, Mrs Ann Glendinning, late of the Swan Inn, at an advanced age.Same place on Tuesday, Mrs Margaret Murray (Edger) at an advanced age.April 18th 1835CPAt the house of her brother in law (Mr R Little of Longtown) on Monday last, in the 42nd year of her age, Miss Mary Boustead, daughter of the late Mr James Boustead of Linstock. The deceased possessed a kindness of heart and a pleasing and affable disposition, by which she endeared herself to her friends and relatives, who now deeply lament her loss.May 9th 1835CJAt Longtown on Sunday last, Mr Wm McAdam, surgeon, aged 36 years, and on Monday Mrs Margaret Park of typhus fever aged 65.At Plump (parish of Kirkandrews on Esk) on Thursday week, Mrs Hayton of that place.At Hirst, parish of Stapleton, on Friday last, Mrs Mary Forster, widow aged 47 ? much respected.May 23rd 1835CJAt Longtown on Monday, Mr Wm Little, cooper at the Old Brewery, in the prime of life.On Wednesday Jane, daughter of Mr George Huggan (of a decline) aged 28. Mary Gammel of a decline aged 10.May 30th 1835CJAt Longtown on Wednesday last, Mr David Wright, age 38: Mr John Graham, flax dresser, 70.June 20th 1835CJAt Rockcliff Cross on the 7th inst, Mr George Wilkin aged 77 ? very greatly esteemed by all who knew him. His remains were interred at Arthuret whither they were accompanied by a very large concourse of neighbours, who came to pay this last tribute of respect to a truly honest man.June 27th 1835CJAt Longtown on Saturday last, Mrs Aitchinson, widow, at an advanced age.July 4th 1835CPAt Longtown, and was interred at Kirklinton, on the 23rd ult, Mrs Elizabeth Atkinson, relict of the late Mr R Atkinson, surgeon, formerly of Keswick, much and deservedly respected.July 11th 1835CJAt Plumbon near Annan, Mrs Dalgleish, relict of Mr John Dalgliesh farmer, the mother of William Dalgleish, for many years rector of Annan and afterwards of Eskbank Academy.July 18th 1835CPOn the 2nd inst at Sleetbeck in the parish of Bewcastle, Mr William Sewell, a respectable farmer under Sir Wastel Briscoe, Bart. aged 78.July 25th 1835CJAt Longtown last week, James Scott, well known in the north as the famous ?Prince of Conjurors?.August 15th 1835CPOn the 8th inst at Henrystown near Longtown, Mr Peter Bell, advanced in years; same day at Longtown, Mr Robert Wright, joiner, aged 48; and on the 10th, James, only son of Mr Thomas Wilson, aged 19, also Mr George Peel, aged 48.August 15th 1835CJAt Longtown on the 6th inst, very suddenly, Mr George Peil, advanced in years; on the 7th Mr Robert Wright, innkeeper and joiner aged 48, and on the 8th Mr John Wilson, joiner aged 19.August 22nd 1835CJAt Kirkandrews on the 19th inst, Mrs Jane Cullen, widow of the late Mr John Cullen, aged 82, much respected.September 5th 1835CJAt Irthington on the 2nd inst, much esteemed by all her friends, Ruth, daughter of the Rev John Topping, vicar of that parish, aged 41 years.Last week at Bogburn, Kirkandrews on Esk, Mrs Elizabeth Battie, aged 86.Last week at Haggistown Holm, Mr John M?Dougal, a respectable yeoman aged 78.October 3rd 1835CJAt Longtown on Sunday week, Mrs Mary Sword, at the advanced age of 88 years.October 10th 1835CJAt Longtown on Thursday week, Mrs Ann Thornburn aged 48 years.October 17th 1835CPOn Saturday last, at Longtown, Mrs Ferguson, widow of Mr Ferguson, formerly a draper of that town.October 24th 1835CJAt Browhead, Kirkandrews on Esk, on Wednesday last, Mr Wm Girvin aged 22.December 5th 1835CJAt Longtown on Saturday last, of consumption, Jane Thornburn, aged 24 years.December 19th 1835CJAt Emmet Haugh in the county of Northumberland, on the 20th November, Mrs Catherine Murray, relict of Mr Fergus Murray, late of Riddings in this county, advanced in years. She was the mother of 13 children, grandmother to 48 and great grandmother to 9, and was highly respected through life by all her friends and acquaintances.January 2nd 1836CPOn Friday January 1st at Helton Hall in the county of Durham, Mrs Nichol (formerly of Longtown), wife of the Rev J S Nichol, in the 41st year of her age. Mrs Nichol possessed many virtues, and amongst others a kind and benevolent disposition, for she had a heart ?open as day to melting charity? ? It has been the lot of few to pass from amongst us more universally lamented than the deceased, and her loss is regretted most by those who knew her best.January 9th 1836CJAt Longtown on Wednesday last, Margaret, wife of Mr Robert Reed, shoemaker, aged 87; same day, Mrs Margaret Ferguson, widow of the late Mr John Ferguson, joiner of Longtown, aged 90.January 16th 1836CPA few days since, at Nevenhill in the parish of Gretna, Mr John Glendinning, farmer, aged 66. Mr Glendinning was highly esteemed for his punctuality and integrity, not only by his family, but by a large circle of friends, both in his own vicinity and at Carlisle, which place he was in the habit of regularly attending every week.February 13th 1836CJAt Hall of Riddings, near Longtown, on Friday last, Mary, widow of the late Mr David Murray, aged 72 years. The Hall of Riddings is a place situated upon the English side of the Liddle, about a mile and a half above its junction with the Esk, and in that place in 1745, the rebel army crossed into England; Charles himself and some of his principal officers slept all night at Murray?s house. The Prince expressed himself much pleased with his accommodation and made Murray a present of a ring, which was kept in the family until lately, when it was given to the Duke of Atholl.March 5th 1836CJAt Longtown on Thursday week, at an advanced aged, Mr James Davidson, weaver.At Mossband near Gretna, on Tuesday last, after a short illness, Hannah, wife of Mr William Bell and daughter of Mr Robert Gibbons, of the former place, aged 22 years, very highly respected by all who knew her.March 12th 1836CJAt Longtown on Friday week, Mr James Bowman, schoolmaster, aged 57.March 19th 1836CJAt Bewcastle Demain, on the 9th inst, Mr Edw. Armstrong, son of Mr John Armstrong, aged 23.At Manchester, on the 11th inst, Mr John Hewitt, late of Cargo near this city, aged 27, son of Wm Hewitt- much lamented.April 2nd 1836CJAt Longtown on Sunday last, at an advanced age, Mrs Young, widow of the late Wm Young, tailor, at Browhead.At Redbrow, Kirkandrews on Esk, Mr Thomas Jackson, labourer, aged 87 years.April 16th 1836CPOn the 30th ult, Mr Joseph Tweddle, a respectable farmer at Nixon?s Town in the parish of Bewcastle, aged 73. His remains were followed to the place of interment by 15 children, and he was father, grandfather and great grandfather to 75 individuals. On the 30th ult, Mr David Tweddle of Whitbury House, in the parish of Stapleton, aged 81, brother to the above. He died without issue.April 16th 1836CJAt Longtown on Tuesday last, Mr Thomas Graham, weaver, aged 37 years; same place on Friday week, Mrs Margaret Scott, wife of Mr John Scott, late of the Kings Arms Inn.At Field Foot, in the parish of Kirklinton, on the 29th ult, Mr James Potts, aged 36.
