Robert, son of Mr John Forster, yeoman, Hollands. He was a young man who bade fair to be not only an honour to his family and relations, but also an ornament to society, and his premature death is much and deeply regretted by all who knew him.August 8th 1840CPAt Tynemouth on Wednesday last after a short illness, Mrs Margaret Crowther of Kirklinton Upper Farm, aged 57 years, many years a highly respected servant in the family of Peter Dixon, Esq. Warwick Bridge.At Dykeside, parish of Kirklinton, on the 15th ult, in the 92 year of his age, William Dodgson, one of the Society of Friends. During his protracted life, he was deservedly esteemed by a numerous circle of friends.At Slacks, in the parish of Bewcastle, on the 2nd inst, Mr Edward Forrester at the advanced age of 85. During his long and useful life, he was much respected by his neighbours and numerous friends.August 29th 1840CPAt the house of her brother on Longtown, aged 41, Miss Margaret Wilson, highly respected by all who knew her. She was cook in the family of Mr Nanson, solicitor in this city, for about 20 years, and gained the esteem of her master for the faithful, honest and industrious manner she discharged the duties of her situation.August 29th 1840CPAt St Thomas in the Vale, Island of Jamaica, in September last, Mr Thomas Holmes, civil engineer, aged 55. Robert Edger, aged 44, well known by the farmers and other frequenters of the Carlisle grain market. He was always in attendance on the Saturdays to carry the bags away as they were disposed of, and is supposed to have stressed himself by taking too heavy a load.November 28th 1840CPIn Castle Street, this Friday morning, Mary, second daughter of the late Rev Dr James, rector of Arthuret and Kirkandrews upon Esk, in this county, aged 72.November 28th 1840 CJAt Longtown on Wednesday week, Mrs Mary Jackson, spinster, aged 74 years.December 12th 1840CPAt Longtown on Sunday last, Mr John Beaty, boot and shoemaker, aged 66, much respected.At Stonehouse near Longtown on Tuesday last, Mrs Johnston, widow, aged 78.At Tudely near Tonbridge, on the 22nd ult, of consumption, Sarah, daughter of the late Mr John Noble of Stubb, Kirklinton, and niece to Mrs Armstrong of the Grapes Inn, Carlisle, aged 29.December 12th 1840 CJAt Longtown on Sunday last, Mr John Bailey, shoemaker, aged 66 years.At Stone House, Arthuret, on Tuesday last, Mrs Ann Johnston, widow advanced in years.January 2nd 1841 CJAt Longtown on Saturday last, Mrs Janet Rutherford, widow, advanced in years.January 23rd 1841CPAt Longtown on the 15th inst, Mrs Mary M?Adam, widow of the late Mr Robert M?Adam, surgeon, Longtown, aged 74, much respected. ? and on the same day, Mrs Janet Rutherford, aged 84.At Calcutta on the 5th November last, Mr Francis Lamb, aged 32, son of Mr Francis Lamb of Longtown. He was a young man who bore an excellent character, both at home and abroad, and greatly assisted his father and mother, who are now in their old age, and had good taste for the fine arts and poetry, of which he wrote several pieces.January 30th 1841 CJAt Longtown on Monday the 25th instant, Mr Andrew Beattie; he had been sometime bellman of Arthuret Church and has left a large family unprovided for.February 6th 1841CPAt Oldhall in the township of Nichol Forest, on Thursday 28th ult, Elizabeth, only daughter of John Graham, in the 28th year of her age, much respected.March 6th 1841CPAt the Fauld on Tuesday week, Robert, youngest son of the late Mr James Baxter, aged 6 years. At Kinkry Hill, Bewcastle, on Sunday last, the 28th ult, Mr Joseph Henderson, yeoman, aged 81, much and deservedly respected.May 1st 1841CPAt Norwich on the 17th ult, Mr Andrew Miller, an eminent cattle dealer, formerly of Gretna, aged 64, much respected. His death was occasioned by the breaking of a blood vessel in a fit of coughing, while in the act of dressing with intention to proceed to the Cattle Hill on business.May 15th 1841CPAt Broad Meadow, Cannonbie, on the 4th inst, Mr Francis Armstrong, farmer, who dropped dead while attending his own sale.June 19th 1841CPOn his way to New Orleans on the 29th April, Mr Andrew Graham, aged 21, son of the late John Graham of Longtown. The deceased was blown overboard on the above night.July 31st 1841CPAt Slacks in the parish of Bewcastle on the 26th inst, after a few days severe illness, Barbara, relict of the late Edward Forrester of Slacks, aged 78.At Bankend in the parish of Bewcastle on the 29th inst, Mr John Graham, yeoman, aged 78.September 4th 1841CPAt Longtown on the 31st ultimo, aged 52 years, Mr Hugh James, for many years parish clerk of Arthuret, much respected: same day and place, Mr William Somerville, aged 18 years.September 25th 1841CPAt Scaleby Hall on the 19th inst Richard Lowry Esq. of Durranhill in the 67th year of his age. His death was occasioned by a fall from his horse (Inquest was reported the same date).At Heather House, Bewcastle on the 10th inst aged 81, Mrs Moody, widow of the late Charles Moody.October 9th 1841CPAt Longtown on the 30th ult, Mr Thomas Tweddle, aged 69, late of the firm of Tweddle, Latimer and co, brewers, greatly respected. October 16th 1841CPAt Sandgreen near Longtown on the 13th inst Mr John Hewitt, farmer, aged 48 years. The deceased was quite well and enjoyed himself on the Saturday previous at a churn, and had left a widow and 12 children to lament his loss.At his fathers house in Longtown on the 14th inst, Mr Robert Bell, aged 23, late clerk in the Carlisle Post Office.At Longtown on the 7th inst, Sible Richardson, widow of the late George Richardson, butcher, aged 73 years.November 13th 1841CPAt Westlinton on the 26th ult, Mrs Jane Irving, aged 86 years, foster mother to the Right Hon Sir JRG Graham Bart of Netherby, and Mrs Ferguson of Houghton Hall.At Hallburn on the 28th ult, James Cullen, aged 98, coachman to the late Dr Graham of Netherby, grandfather to the present baronet.December 4th 1841CPAt Longtown on Saturday last, Mr Matthew Coulson aged 78 years. The deceased had filled the office as constable for the association for a great number of years.At Dumfries on the 28th ult, Mr John Tweddle, engineer of Liverpool, in the prime of life, son of the late Mr Thomas Tweddle, brewer, Longtown.December 18th 1841CPAt Longtown on the 7th inst, Mr Thomas Anderson, potter, at the age of 79 years. The deceased was well known in the adjoining counties in his profession.Same place on the 11th inst, Mrs Mary Edkin, aged 48 years, and on the 12th, Robert, son of Mr Musgrave, aged 10 years.At Sandysike on the 14th inst, Ann (wife?) of Mr Thomas Winthorp, blacksmith, aged 49 years.
