At Longtown Union Workhouse on the 12th inst, James Routledge, aged 65 years. At Springfield on the 6th inst, Mrs Mary Clarke, aged 31 years, daughter of Mr Francis Forrester of Kitty?s Straits.January 29th 1842CPAt Millbrowhead in the parish of Arthuret on the 13th inst Mr John Murray, carpenter, aged 70 years. At Longtown on the 20th inst Mrs Sarah Scott, aged 82 years; same day, Mr James Kilpatrick, late of Gretna, merchant, aged 78 years. At Milhill in the parish of Kirkandrews on the 6th inst, Eleanor Johnston, wife of Mr Andrew Johnston, shoemaker, aged 75. At Longtown on the 8th inst, Mr John Sewell, aged 34, and on the 6th, John, son of Mr Thomas Addison, aged 8. At the Longtown Union Workhouse on the 8th inst, Mrs Jane Morrison, aged 90 years.March 26th 1842CPAt Longtown on the 17th inst, Mrs Ann Bell, aged 71 years. At the Longtown Union Workhouse on the 21st inst, Mr Richard Forster, aged 71 years. The deceased was named after his uncle, the late Richard Forster of Richmond, the noted trainer and rider for the late Earl of Surrey, and Colonel Radcliffe.At Woodhead, Kirklinton, on the 17th inst, Mr William Johnston, farmer, aged 74 years. At Peth near Longtown, on the 17th inst, Mrs Sarah Roden, wife of Mr Philip Roden, aged 51 years.April 2nd 1842CPAt Longtown on the 29th ultimo, Mr James Atkinson, aged 51, for many years one of Sir James Graham?s ploughmen. The deceased was struck severely by rheumatism a few years ago, and confined to his bed, but was still in receipt of his wages. At Longtown Union Workhouse, Mr Henry Gaddes. The deceased for a number of years was a blacksmith at Carsaddle or Beer Burn Foot in Cannoby. He was removed from Newcastle only a few days previous to his death, and at his request his body was interred at Cannoby churchyard.April 9th 1842CPAt Crookburn in the parish of Bewcastle, on the 3rd inst, of a few days severe illness, much lamented and respected, Jane, wife of Mr Joseph Ewart, and daughter of Mr John Birrell of Rosetrees, aged 29.April 23rd 1842CPAt Longtown on the 17th inst, Mrs Ann Pringle, late of Jerriestown, aged 87 years. At Beckside, in the parish of Kirklinton, on the 20th inst, Elizabeth, wife of Mr William Carruthers, blacksmith, aged 67 years.May 7th 1842CPAt Kersopfoot in the township of Nichol Forest, on the 25th ult, Mrs Elizabeth Armstrong, wife of the late Mr Walter Armstrong, aged 89. During her long and useful life she was much respected.May 14th 1842CPAt Milhill in the parish of Kirkandrews, on the 5th inst, Mrs Jane Irving, aged 89 years. At Snaith in Yorkshire, on the 3rd inst, Mr William Thompson, schoolmaster aged 22 years. The deceased was son of Mr James Thompson, late of Longtown, and much respected. At Longtown on the 10th inst, Mr James Wilkinson, thong-maker, aged 42 years. He belonged to the Freemason Lodge there, and was buried in the order. At the Longtown Union Workhouse on the 10th inst, Mary Slater, wife of Mr Thomas Slater, schoolmaster, aged 53.June 3rd 1842CPAt Dominica, West Indies, in April last, John, eldest son of Mr William Sword of Longtown.June 11th 1842CPAt Longtown on the 28th ultimo, Mrs Isabella Lamb, widow of Mr Robert Lamb of Bogburn in the parish of Kirkandrews, aged 90 years, much respected.Same day, Mary Little, spinster, aged 62. On the 7th inst, Mrs Jane Graham, wife of William Graham, surgeon, and daughter of Mr Robert Little, draper, much respected.July 9th 1842CPAt Longtown on the 29th ult, Mr Robert Scott, aged 84, father of the noted James Scott, conjuror. Same place on the 3rd inst, Mr William Pringle, late of Jerriestown, aged 48.August 20th 1842CPAt the Rectory, Kirklinton on the 15th inst, Elizabeth, wife of the Rev George Bell, in the 45th year of her age. At Rownknow, in the parish of Kirklinton, on the 15th inst, Mrs Ann Clark, wife of Mr Richard Clark, aged 56 years.August 27th 1842CPAt Moss Cottage in the parish of Kirklinton, Mr David Bell, cordwainer, aged 26. At Horsegills in the parish of Kirklinton, on the 21st inst, Mary, the widow of the late Mr George Graham, yeoman, aged 81. At Browhead on the 23rd inst, Mr William Baxter, late of Beck in the parish of Kirkandrews, farmer, aged 79. At Milhill on the 24th inst, Benjamin McKay, aged 18. The deceased was found dead in bed. At Longpark in the parish of Scaleby, Mr Thomas Jefferson, yeoman, aged 37 years. And on the 30th ult, Mrs Jane Beaty, widow of the late William Beaty, cabinet maker, aged 85 years. At Humphrey?s House in the same parish, on the 16th inst, Frances, infant daughter of James Taylor. At Hethersgill, same parish Mary Park, aged 21 years.August 5th 1843CPAt Todhillwood, on the 1st inst, Mrs Jane Lamb, widow of the late Mr Thomas Lamb, many years, farmer under Sir James Graham, Bart at Kirkandrews upon Esk, well known in the borders as an extensive dealer in sheep and cattle, advanced in years.August 26th 1843CPAt Longtown on the 22nd inst John Armstrong, son of Drusilla Armstrong, aged 22 years; he was weak of intellect and deaf and dumb from birth, and although 5ft 10 inches in height, did not weigh more than 5 stones. At the Longtown Union Workhouse on the 19th inst, Ridley, son of Mary Murray, aged 13 months. Same place on the 22nd, John Davidson, aged 42 years. At Roadds in the parish of Kirkandrews on Esk, Daniel, son of Mr Henry Campbell, aged 5 years.September 2nd 1843CPAt the Longtown Union Workhouse on the 28th inst, John, son of Margaret Huggan, aged 2 years. On the 26th inst at Cocklett Hill in the parish of Kirklinton, Anthony, son of Mr Anthony Johnston, farmer, aged 22 years.September 23rd 1843CPAt Longtown on the 15th inst, Mrs Jane Hewitson, wife of Mr George Hewitson, brewer, Longtown, after a long and painful illness, which she bore with Christian fortitude, much respected by all who knew her. On the 20th inst, at Beck, in the parish of Kirkandrews on Esk, Elizabeth, widow of the late Mr William Beattie, farmer, Torquhoun, Dumfriesshire, and mother of Mr John Beattie, farmer, Beck, aged 100 years and a few weeks.
