April 2nd 1847CPAt Path near Longtown on the 20th ult, Mr James Wilson, aged 73, gamekeeper to the Right Hon. Sir James Graham, Bart. of Netherby, which situation he held for upwards of 40 years. He was considered in his day an excellent shot, and was allowed by all the nobility who visited Netherby in the fishing season to be the best angler and dresser of an artificial fly in the north of England. At Longtown on the 23rd ult, Thomas, son of Mr William Ferguson, meal dealer, aged 11 years. At the same place on the 26th ult, very suddenly, Bridget Beaty, aged 20 years. At Mid Easton on the 18th ult, Mr John Baxter, farmer, aged 49 years.April 16th 1847CPIn Rickergate on the 14th inst, Mr John Armstrong, late of Kirkbeckstow in the parish of Bewcastle, aged 93 years. At Longtown on the 5th inst, Esther Nicholson, at an advanced age. Same day and place, Isabella, wife of David Robinson, in the prime of life. At the same place on the 3rd inst, Eleanor, the widow of James Davidson, aged 80 years. At the same place on the 3rd inst, Mr William Paisley, aged 79 years. At the same place on the 8th inst, Jane, the wife of Mr John Crozer, aged 26. Sane place on the 9th inst, Catherine, the daughter of Mr James Wright, aged 2 years. Same place on the 13th, Mr Francis Lamb, yeoman, aged 76 years, highly respected. Same place on the 14th inst, Mr William Vicars, aged 94 years. Same day and place, Mrs Isabella Johnston, wife of Mr Joseph Johnston, missionary, aged 65 years. At the Longtown Union Workhouse, Elizabeth Turner, aged 64 years. At Kirklinton on the 4th inst, Mary Wilson Nixon, eldest daughter of the late Rev. Thomas Pattinson, many years rector of Kirklinton and Stapleton. At Westlinton on the 3rd inst, Margaret, wife of Mr Robert Little, aged 60 years. At Slealands near Longtown, on the 10th inst, Margaret, the daughter of Mr John Mattinson, aged 15 years.May 14th 1847CPOn the 7th inst after a long and tedious illness, aged 65, George Turner, farmer of Hesket Hill, parish of Kirkandrews upon Eden, and formerly of Close Gap, parish of Kirkandrews upon Esk, much and deservedly respected.June 4th 1847CPAt Glinger Bank in the parish of Kirkandrews on Esk, on the 25th ult, Thos. Latimer, aged 74 years. At Browhead in the parish of Kirkandrews on Esk on the 7th inst, Mr Richard Peel, aged 76 years. He was a native of Longtown and had gone there for the benefit of his health.October 22nd 1847CPAt Liverpool on the 12th inst, Mrs Margaret Wilkin, widow of Thomas Wilkin, late of Carwinlaw Cottage, near Longtown, aged 62 years.December 17th 1847CPAt Willow Hill in the parish of Kirklinton, on the 12th inst, of smallpox, Francis Scott, husbandman to Mr Fawcett of Scaleby Castle, aged 22 years. At High Plains near Netherby, on the 28th inst, Mr William Lawson, farmer, aged 49 years.January 15th 1848CPAt Longtown on the 4th inst, aged 2 years, Fanny, the daughter, and on the 6th, Robert, the son of Mr Robert Blaiklock, baker. Same place on the 8th inst, William, son of Mr Richard Graham, aged 2 years. Same place and day, Sarah Armstrong, aged 21. At Moss Edge, Hethersgill, on the 7th inst, Miss Margaret Graham, aged 21 years. At Peth near Longtown on the 11th inst, Mrs Sarah Scott, aged 57. At the Longtown Union Workhouse on the 10th inst, Sarah Wood, aged 52. The deceased was a native of Leicester and was on her way to Hawick to join her husband.January 22nd 1848CPAt Longtown on the 16th inst, Mr Thomas Wilson, yeoman, aged 59 years. Same day and place, Mr Richard Carruthers, aged 52. At Fir Bank, parish of Kirklinton, on the 18th inst, of smallpox, Andrew Brayson, aged 23 years. The deceased was highly respected by a large circle of friends, and being a member of the Independent United Order of Mechanics, a large number of the above Order assembled at their Lodge Room, Marquis of Granby, Longtown, and proceeded to the house of the deceased where, forming in procession, they followed his remains to their resting place at Arthuret.February 5th 1848CPAt Jerriestown, parish of Kirklinton, on the 29th ult, Mrs Jane Irving, aged 91. On the 1st August at Clift, same parish, Sarah, daughter of Mr Jos Turnbull, farmer of Bromfield near Wigton. She only arrived at Clift on Saturday to see her friends.August 26th 1848CPAt Liverpool on the 16th inst Jane, the wife of William Irving and daughter of Mr James Bell, grocer, Longtown, aged 24, much respected. On the 6th inst at Jackson?s Rigg, parish of Arthuret, Mrs Jane Blackburn, wife of Mr David Blackburn, farmer, aged 47. On the 18th inst at Willowhill, parish of Kirklinton, Mrs Margaret Hetherington, wife of Mr Joseph Hetherington, aged 35. Deceased died in childbed, having birth to a son who only lived three hours.September 9th 1848CPOn the 2nd inst at Halhills, parish of Kirklinton, Mr Andrew Davidson, farmer, aged 85; and on the 4th inst at Jerriestown, same parish, Miss Mary Holliday aged 84.September 30th 1848CPAt Nixonstown, Bewcastle, on the 26th ult, Isabella, wife of Thomas Thornburn aged 72.November 18th 1848CPAt Sea, whilst on his passage from Liverpool to Quebec, in August last, Thomas Atkinson, formerly of Mill Town Mill, Kirklinton near this city, in the 59th years of his age, much and deservedly respected.December 23rd 1848CPAt Longtown on the 10th inst, Charles Scott, aged 32, after 18 hours sickness of the Asiatic Cholera; on the 13th inst, Elizabeth Scott, mother of Charles Scott, aged 55, of ten hours sickness of the Asiatic Cholera; on the 14th, George, son of Charles Scott aged four years, after 20 hours sickness of the Asiatic Cholera; on the 20th, Ann, daughter of Charles Scott, aged 2, of Asiatic Cholera; same day, Eleanor, step-daughter of Charles Scott, aged 7, after twelve days sickness, not cholera. All these deaths occurred in one room in which the family resided.
